The so called "foreign" photos of Gerard Pape are examples of his multi-parametric approach to photography. His way of making a photo is not limited to finding certain colors, lights, objects, positions or images as a kind of "documentary". On the contrary, it is just the start. Gerard adds special camera movements which crack or fragment reality and which open unto a special "foreign photo" world. The original realistic object may disappear completely in the end photo. The duration, the speed, the pulsation and the vibrato of visual movements become the multi-dimensional parameters of his photography. It is what has a similarity with his approach to music.
